A people’s movement towards education equity
Every step towards education
This question sparked the idea for Shikshagraha, a people’s education movement dedicated to improving public education across India.
India’s education system is as vast and diverse as its 806 districts, with a million public schools serving over 140 million children. While we’ve made progress in ensuring children have access to a school, the quality of learning is still a major concern. Schools across the country face unique challenges that one-size-fits-all solutions cannot fix.
EduMentum, launched in 2017, set out to change that by helping young leaders develop local solutions for systemic education problems. Over the years, this grew into EduMentumX, Vidya Amrit Mahotsav, and ultimately, Shikshagraha—a movement focused on empowering districts to drive change from the ground up.
Our mission is ambitious yet critical: to improve 1 million public schools by 2030. We envision a future where every child, regardless of their background, has access to exceptional educational opportunities that enable them to dream, learn, and succeed.

Shikshagraha began to address these disparities by uniting all actors of the educational landscape —government bodies, civil society, markets, academia, industry, and media.
We believe that collective action and collaboration are essential to achieving education equity.

In India, many students in public schools face barriers that stifle their potential. Despite various well-intentioned policies and interventions, the quality of education in many public schools could be better. This systemic shortfall contributes to poor learning outcomes and limits future opportunities for students, perpetuating cycles of poverty.
